Most Parisians live in apartment buildings, many of them Haussmann-era blocks from the second half of the 19th century with shared risers, old cast iron or lead pipes and narrow service ducts. A leak in one flat quickly becomes a water damage case for the neighbours below, handled between insurers with a joint report (constat amiable dégât des eaux). Paris water is hard, so limescale builds up in water heaters (cumulus), taps and toilets.
Many flats have electric hot water tanks rather than gas boilers. Plumbers must hold a recognised qualification or proven experience, and a written quote is mandatory before any repair over 150 euro including VAT.
Indicative range seen on the local market, not a quote. The final price depends on the job and is agreed directly with the plumber before work starts.
This site only handles plumbing jobs, so your request goes to someone who does this work every day.
No work should start until you have agreed the price with the plumber. You are free to decline.

Sending a request costs nothing. The work is carried out and invoiced by the plumber.
Indicative rates in the Paris area are around 70 to 140 euro per hour excluding VAT, with travel fees of 30 to 60 euro. A simple emergency job is often 150 to 300 euro. Night and weekend surcharges are common.
Some plumbers in Paris speak English, but not all. Tell us in the form that you need English and we take it into account when passing on your request.
In France a written quote is mandatory before any repair work above 150 euro including VAT, and below that amount you can still ask for one. Do not sign a quote you do not understand.
Go up to the neighbour above, cut the water if you can, and contact the building's syndic or caretaker (gardien). Take photos for the insurance claim (constat amiable dégât des eaux).
Routine maintenance and small repairs are generally the tenant's responsibility, while replacing worn installations is the landlord's. Inform your landlord or agency in writing.
Repairs in a home completed more than two years ago are usually invoiced at 10% VAT, and some energy saving work at 5.5%. New builds and professional premises are at 20%. The rate should appear on the quote.
Describe the problem in two minutes. A local plumber calls you back and agrees the price before any work.
